- Sonia "Sunny" Matson, 79, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2013. Sonia was born in Benenden-Kent, England in 1933. She moved to the United States in 1960 and relocated to Ponce Inlet, Florida in 1969. She also lived in Port Orange, Ormond-by-the-Sea, and the Summer Trees community. Sonia loved all animals but especially her cats, Bugsy, Minnie, Kitty Kat, Cow, and Baby. She loved to garden and she was known for her ability revive the weakest of plants. Aside from having a "green thumb", Sonia enjoyed singing Christian music. Most of all, she loved her family and there is nothing she would not do for them. Sonia was a member of Silver Sneakers at the YMCA and she was a faithful attendant to Lighthouse Church of Holly Hill. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Jackie Underwood, Carrie (Mark) Kalenda, Cathy (Rob Graham) Vlad, John (Jill) Hockin; grandchildren, Jennifer (Pat) Davenport, Jonathan Kalenda, Kimberly Kalenda, Trevor Riehs, Ashley Riehs, Michelle Kalenda, Amanda Vlad, J.T. Hockin, Jacob Hockin, Dylan Graham, Natalie Graham, and Mitchell Graham. A service of remembrance will be held at a later date.
