Thomas Shamas, 95, of Palm Coast, Florida passed away April 15, 2013 at Benton Village of Palm Coast. The family will receive friends today (Wednesday, April 17th) between the hours of 2:004:00 pm at Lohman Funeral Home, 220 Palm Coast Pkwy. SW. Funeral services will be celebrated on Thursday, April 18th at 10:30 am at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 5400 Belle Terre Pkwy, Palm Coast. Interment with military honors will take place on Friday, April 19th at the Jacksonville National Cemetery at 9:30 am. Thomas was born January 9, 1918 in Diyarbakir, Turkey to Mr. and Mrs. Naum Shamas. He and his wife, Louise relocated to Palm Coast in 1980. Thomas was a retired ITT Community Development Sales Rep., selling property in Palm Coast; he fought in Okinawa and the Philippines during World War II in the U.S. Army where he was awarded the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He was a parishioner at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge # 194 F&AM in Ridgefield Park, NJ, the Lions Club and the NJ Club in Palm Coast, and was a Lifetime member with the VFW. He was an avid swimmer, enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and was a loyal NY Yankees and NY Giant fan. Thomas will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends as a man with a great sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Louise Shamas and a son, James Shamas. He is survived by a son, Ronald Shamas and his wife Rosemarie of Flagler Beach, FL; his sister, Lucy Shadoian, Ridgewood, NJ; and his sister-in-law Barbara Abadji, Palm Coast. Memorial donations may be sent to St. Thomas Episcopal Church Building Fund, 5400 Belle Terre Pkwy., Palm Coast, FL 32164 (please put "Building Fund" on the memo section).
