Dr. George A. (Hap) Thompson, 84, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2013. George was born in Bland County Virginia and served in the U.S. Army. After attending the University Of Richmond Medical School, he completed his training in Orlando and moved to Volusia County to begin his practice of Orthopedic Surgery. He was a physician at the infield care center at Daytona Speedway for many years and served as Ormond Beach City Commissioner. His hobbies included golf, fishing, hunting and playing the piano. Survivors include daughter Courtney Thompson; son Geoffrey (Ann) Thompson; four grandchildren, Whitney, Garrett, Alex and Rilee, all of Ormond Beach; and special friend Helen Bliss. Memorial service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, 44 S. Halifax Dr., Ormond Beach on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at 4:30 pm.
