James Duane Brown, 78, of DeLand, passed away May 7, 2013 at the Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia / Flagler Care Center in Orange City. He was born in Rossburg, Ohio on October 26, 1934 and was a retired Lieutenant with the DeLand Police Department. James enjoyed building computers and his police work. He loved animals, boating and living on the river. Survivors include his son James Brown of DeLand; daughter Carla Brown Richmond of Orange City; step-daughter Deanna Harris of Ft. Lauderdale; brother Larry Brown of Ohio; sisters Emerald Shoemaker of Tavares and Altha Wright of Oklahoma City, OK; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Maxienne L. Brown. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 11th at 4pm at the First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ in DeLand with Chaplain Art Bakewell and Chaplain Reggie May officiating.
