Kathryn (Kay) Quarterman-Stripling passed away at her home on May 26 after a valiant battle with cancer. She was born in Daytona Beach, Florida on April 14, 1945 and was a lifelong resident of Daytona Beach. She graduated from Mainland High School where she was a majorette in the MHS Band. Kay loved children and animals in a special way. She ran a day care in her home for many years and each child was special to her. She volunteered at the Halifax Humane Society and loved her precious pet companions Buffy, Sam, Lola, Fred and Izzy. Kay was very active in her church, first at Indigo and then at Central Baptist where she cared for the children and sang with the Jubilees. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. Kay was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Harriet Quarterman and her sister Arlene McCarter. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Stripling; her beloved daughters Krista Bowley and Stacy Newsom; niece Kim (Guy) Merrill; nephew, Mike McCarter; brothers-in-law David Stripling, Steve (Carol) Stripling, and Mike (Karen) Stripling. A celebration of Kay's life will be held on June 8, 2013 at 6:30 pm at Central Baptist Church, 142 Fairview Avenue, Daytona Beach, Florida 32114. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to the Halifax Humane Society, 2364 LPGA Blvd., Daytona Beach, FL 32124, or online at www.halifaxhumanesociety.org.
