Ronald V. Fries, age 78, of Edgewater, died at home Tuesday, September 17, surrounded by family. Born in Hingham, Massachusetts, Ron came to this area in 2002 from Weymouth and Cape Cod, Massachusetts, after retiring as a project manager for Bowdoin Construction Corporation of Needham, Massachusetts. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Smyrna Beach, and a Coast Guard Veteran of the Korean War. An avid fisherman and sailor, Ron was a member and past Fleet Captain and Dock Master at Smyrna Yacht Club, where he especially enjoyed sailing with the Old Men of the Sea. Survivors include his wife, Donna (Derba) Fries; a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Kim Fries of Longwood, Florida; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Michael Rose of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; and three grandchildren, Jarrod and Gage Fries of Longwood, and Emma Rose of Mt. Juliet. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 21 at St. Gerard's Catholic Church, Edgewater. A reception to celebrate Ron's life will follow at Smyrna Yacht Club.
