Carrol E. Godwin, 90, of DeLand passed away October 22, 2013 at the Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler Care Center in Orange City. He was born
March 20, 1923 in Pelham, Georgia and moved to DeLand in 1947 from Sanford. Carrol served in World War II with the U.S. Army 88th Division Blue Devils from 1943-46 and was a volunteer fireman with the DeLand Fire Department for 19 years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and he loved fishing,
hunting and working on cars. He was a mechanic for Smokey Unick in the early days of NASCAR. He is survived by sons Gene Godwin of Paisley, Billy Godwin of DeLand and Larry Godwin of DeLand; sister Mary Frances Linnekugel of Winter Springs; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 26th at 11am at the Allen-Summerhill Memorial Chapel in DeLand with a visitation from 10-11am prior to the service. Interment will follow at DeLand Memorial Gardens. Online condolences may be made at Allen-Summerhill DeLand is in charge.
