Charles W. (Bill) Marks, 87, passed away January 13, 2014 at Florida Hospital DeLand. He was born October 25, 1926 in Denmark, SC to Walter Marks and Theresa Strickland Marks. He attended schools in South Carolina and also in Miami, FL. He enrolled in the US Marine Corps and served in World War II, mainly in the Pacific Theater from 1941-1945. Following this he furthered his education at the University of Florida. He had a keen interest in aviation and became a commercial air pilot and flew for Eastern Airlines for a number of years. He later was employed by the FAA until his retirement. He was very active in the community and was a life member of VFW Post 9986 in Astor, FL, life member of Masonic Lodge 276 in Daytona Beach, the M-T Bottle Collectors-DeLand chapter and the National Federation of Bottle Collectors. He served as treasurer and newsletter editor of this organization for several years. He was also a member of the Florida Token Society, Friends of DeLeon Springs and the Kepler Road Baptist Church, where he served as clerk. He was predeceased by his sister, Theresa Marks
Massey and brother Fred Marks. He is survived by his wife June Bowers-Marks; two children, a son James B. Marks and daughter Oresa Marie Morrison of Deltona, FL; a brother Cecil (Norma) Marks, Lutz, FL; sister-in-law Kathleen Marks, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; step-daughter Pauline (Bailey) McClinton, Prosperity, SC; step-son Coy McClinton, Columbia, SC; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is sorely missed by his many friends of his church and community. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 19th at 1pm at Kepler Road Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Darden officiating. A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 20th at 1pm at Glen Haven Memorial Park in Winter Park. Online condolences may be made at www.allensummerhillfuneralhome.com.
