Richard Ray Douglas, 88, of Edgewater, FL passed away peacefully on January 24, 2014. Please join the family Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Seventh Day Adventist Church, 401 N. Williamson Blvd., Daytona Beach, FL 32114 for regular Church Services at 11:00 a.m., followed by Fellowship Meal at 12:15 p.m. and Richard's Memorial Service at 1:30 p.m. Richard was born in 1925 in Elmwood Place, Ohio to the late Ransom and Lena (Yates) Douglas. Richard served proudly in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. During his time in the Navy, Richard was awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, American Theater Victory Medal, and The Purple Heart. Following the war he worked as a brakeman, foreman, and union representative for the New York Central Railroad. He later worked as a foreman and was a part of the accident derailment investigation team for Penn Central Railroad. He moved on from Penn Central and assisted in putting Amtrak into motion. He stayed on with Amtrak as a foreman and worked on the investigation team. Richard was a member of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio. Richard is preceded in death by his brothers, Chester Douglas and Wayne (Gladys) Douglas; daughter Beverly R. (Mike) Grove of Cosby, TN. Those left to cherish Richard's memory are his wife of almost four years, Julie M. Colmer-Douglas; mother-in-law, Joan Colmer; children: Gary R. (Debbie) Douglas, Venice, FL; Jeffrey W. Douglas, Columbus, OH; niece Janet (Tom) Bittner, West Union, OH; grandchildren, Lauryn Douglas, Tampa, FL and Gary R. Douglas Jr., Fairfield, OH; cousin, James (Diane) Yates, Daytona Beach, FL.
