Tony J. Montalbano, 88, of Ormond Beach entered eternal rest January 30, 2014. He was born October 6, 1925 to Leo and Jane Montalbano in Springfield, IL. He graduated from Cathedral
Boys High School in 1943. Tony was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Pratt (DE363) in the Pacific until the end of World War II. He went to work for the United States Postal Service in 1947 as a substitute clerk/carrier and he rose through the ranks and was appointed Postal Inspector in 1961. He served in various locations including Norfolk, NE, Kansas City, MO, Cincinnati, OH, and Washington DC as an Operational Audit Specialist. He retired in 1981 and moved to Ormond Beach, FL in 1986. He was a member of St. Brendan's Catholic Church, NARPI and he enjoyed all sports especially golf an enjoyed playing poker. He survived by his loving wife of 58 years Mary L. Gutmann, sons, Michael Montalbano (Kathy) Lemoore, CA, Ronald Montalbano (Jayna) Spring Hill, FL, Richard Montalbano (Tari) Orange Park, FL; daughter: Ann Montalbano Sherman Oaks, CA; brothers, Frank & Sam; sisters: Mamie Unser & Marguerite Culton, all of Springfield, IL; grand-daughters, Katy Lou Montalbano, Jenna Marie Montalbano, and Olivia Marie Montalbano. Charitable donations can be made to Florida Hospital Hospice Care or St. Brendan's Alive in Christ Fund. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 6th at St. Brendan Catholic Church with Father Tom Barrett as celebrant. Tony will be buried at sea by the United States Navy.
