Howard Milton Carlton was born in Daytona Beach, FL on January 8, 1945, to Norma and Milton Carlton. He grew up in Port Orange where he attended elementary school with his four siblings. He graduated from Mainland High School, Class of 1963, where he was a football and baseball Buccaneer. Howard attended Daytona Beach Junior College and transferred to Carson Newman College in Tennessee. He was a submariner machinist mate aboard the USS John Marshall where he served four years during the Vietnam War. He wed Donna Searle Carlton on June 14, 1969, and following his Navy service returned to his beloved home town of Port Orange, where he and his brother Jonathan Carlton owned S. M. Carlton Heating and Air Conditioning. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Daytona Beach where he was a faithful Bible teacher and deacon. Howard enjoyed fishing, barbecuing, and held a recreational pilot's license. He was an avid Gator fan, loved to share stories, and knew no stranger. He is survived by his wife Donna; three sons: Joshua, Matthew, and Seth; and five grandchildren: Gunner, Reef, Ryder, Silas, and Lily. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Daytona Beach, 118 N. Palmetto Ave., Daytona Beach. His family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
