Manuel de Rubio Obituary

Manuel Gil de Rubio, 95, of Deltona, Florida, died October 3, 2015. Manuel, or Manny as he was known by most, was born December 4, 1919, in Santurce, Puerto Rico, to Manuel and Petra (Rodriguez Calvo) Gil de Rubio. Manny moved with his parents to New York City as a child. He volunteered for the Army Air Corps and was assigned to the 450th Bomber Group. Manny's keen intellect was quickly put to good use as a Cryptographic Technician in Italy during World War II. Manny was an active member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. He enjoyed reading and travelling throughout his life. He was awarded a certification of Honorary Educator for his generous support of the St. Joseph's Indian High School in South Dakota. He was also a lifelong New York Yankees fan. Manny was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Margaret; his brother Raymond and his great-grandchildren Lexi and Sean Monroe. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Amelia; three sons, Edward Gil de Rubio, Richard Gil de Rubio, and David Gil de Rubio; two daughters Roseanne Connolly and Sandra Van Roekel; step-children, Ben Vazquez, Eddie Vazquez and Josie Reyes; four sisters Blanca Cedeno, Patti Christian, Sonia Rodriguez, and Vivian Gentry; one brother Ferdinand Gil de Rubio; 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 8th from 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Baldauff Funeral Home, 1233 Saxon Blvd. in Orange City. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, 1310 Maximillian St., Deltona at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 9th. A committal service will be held at Deltona Memorial Gardens following Mass.
