Teresa Barbara Hoberock
Teresa Barbara Hoberock, 101, Springfield, formerly of Neosho, died Dec. 25, 2012 at Springfield, following a short illness. Teresa was born Sept. 14, 1911 in Tower, MN and moved to the Neosho area in 1945 from Emporia, KS.
Teresa obtained her RN degree from University of Minnesota and was instructor of Nursing at Oak Park Hospital in Chicago from 1935-1936 and in 1936-1937, she was instructor of Nurses at St. Mary's Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. From 1937 through 1968, she was a homemaker and devoted her time to raising her family. She returned to nursing in 1968, working as the Director of Nursing at Neosho Senior Center until retiring in 1970. In 1972 she began working as House Mother at the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority House in Springfield at SMSU, now MSU and retired from there in 1992. While living in Springfield, she volunteered daily at Mercy Villa Nursing Home for 14 years and during that time led the daily Rosary. Teresa was a 62 year survivor of breast cancer and following her recovery, she was an educator and advocate for breast cancer detection and treatment. In 1959, she was recognized as Missouri Cancer Mother of the Year and was chosen as one of 33 delegates to attend Cure Cancer Congress held in Washington, DC.
She had a special desire to help those who were less fortunate and in need and lived out her Christian faith by doing for others. Teresa was a lifelong, devoted member of the Catholic Church and attended mass daily. She was a member of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women for many years and while living in Neosho a member of St. Canera Catholic Church and a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Springfield.
Teresa married Lawrence H. Hoberock on Sept. 6, 1937 and he preceded her in death on May 31, 1954. She is survived by six children, Dr. Larry Hoberock and wife, Judy, Stillwater, OK; Dr. Tom Hoberock and wife, Dianne, Harrison, AR; Cathy Stockard and husband, Jerry, Pittsburg, KS; Paula Baird and husband, Ron, Springfield, MO; Chris Hoberock and wife, Susan, Nevada, MO and Greg Hoberock, Washington, MO; 18 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Rosary services will be conducted at 9 am on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012 at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories and following the rosary service, the family will receive friends until 10 am. Following visitation, a Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am in St. Canera Catholic Church, Father Lewis Hejna will officiate. Following the services, interment will be in the Neosho IOOF Cemetery and grandsons, Tim Hoberock, Richard Stockard, Steve Stockard, Patrick Baird, Jared Hoberock, Grant Hoberock and Doug Hoberock will serve as pallbearers. The family request that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Springfield Catholic Schools or St. Canera Catholic Church of Neosho, c/o Clark Funeral Home, PO Box 66, Neosho, MO 64850.
