Adalyn C. Cravens, 98, passed away Sunday, November 11 in the home of her daughter surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 28, 1913 in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada to Connie and Minnie Dowell Nowak. She came to the U.S. in 1937. She was a legal secretary, nurse, and dental assistant, active in many organizations, and a 75 year member of St. John's Episcopal Church, serving as head of the Altar Guild for many years.
She was married for forty eight and half years to Robert Smith Cravens who preceded her in death in 1988. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Collyn Nowak and Marguerite Davis.
She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend to all.
She spent many hours with her family and loved to travel, play cards and fish and will be greatly missed by all her special card and SSCC friends, a special friend Jean Baker who took her to church and Lady Bears games.
She is survived by her dear daughter Donna and husband Pat Strothkamp, two granddaughters Debbie Strothkamp of Strafford, MO; Cathy Beck and husband Jim; two great-grandchildren Patrick Beck and Carly Beck of Charlotte, NC; sister-in-law Fredina Nowak and her daughters Fernne and Lyle Draht and Lynn Kennedy and their families of Canada; niece Daisy and George Ballard and their families of Springfield, MO; niece Betty and Rich Carter and family of Colorado and many cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:00am in St. John's Episcopal Church. Visitation will be Friday from 7:00pm to 8:00pm in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Committee, St. John's Episcopal Church, or Hospice Compassus.
