Bennie B Smith

Bennie B Smith, age 82, passed away at Cox South on March 3, 2014. He was born on March 24, 1931, in March, MO, the youngest of 11 children. He enlisted in the Army in 1948, serving in Japan, then volunteering for service in Korea at the beginning of the Korean Conflict. After fulfilling his service in the Army, he returned to civilian life, and became a pressman for Lily Tulip in Springfield, MO. He met Elizabeth C Leaver in early 1955, and they were married on June 11, 1955. His life at that time was fully committed to living a Christian life, and his desire to know God, and for others to know God, was well known by those who knew him. He enjoyed fishing and golf, and was involved in his church, first at Eastside Assembly of God, and then at Parkcrest Assembly of God, serving as a leader in the Royal Rangers.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, his two sons (Daniel and wife Kathryn, and Jonathan) and two daughters (Sharon Casada and husband David, and Patricia (Pat)), along with four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Elda Mae Peterson.

He is predeceased by his father and mother, Jackson Coates Smith and Mary Carbenia (Hull) Smith, by his brothers Martin Luther and wife Nellie, James Perry, Alpha Cloren and wife Josephine, and Howard Calvin, and by sisters Adeline Susie, Mae Ellen Strong and husband Kenneth, Annie Victoria, Phena Mary Smith and husband Everett Smith, Lola Ella Fields and husband Walter, and by Edwin Peterson (husband of sister Elda Mae Peterson).

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014, at 1:30 PM in the Walnut Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Springfield, MO, with a funeral service to follow at 2:30 PM. Bennie's final resting place will be at Maple Park Cemetery, Springfield, MO.
