Carmen "Leta" Mitchell

Carmen Leta (Eagleburger) Mitchell passed away Monday April 28, 2014 in Springfield, Mo. She was born May 27, 1949 in Springfield to Henry Oren and Winifred Aileen Vollmar Eagleburger.

Carmen married Charles Mitchell on December 16, 1989. She worked as a CNA for the Cox Health System and local nursing homes. Carmen was a member of the Orchard Crest Baptist Church, a life member of the VFW 3404, DAV Chapter 11and the Elks Lodge 409. She also served for a number of years on the Greene County Democratic Central Committee. Carmen also was past President of Tom Watkins Neighborhood Association where she enjoyed helping the kids. She also like to do gardening, crafts and canning.

Carmen was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Charles; son, Jason Highfill and his wife Amber and their daughter Bryanna Sue; two brothers: Donnie and wife Ann Pippin and Len Eagleburger; two sisters, Debi Hart and Kitty Lock; and many nieces and nephews.

A visitation is scheduled for May 1, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home, 1635 N. Benton, Springfield, MO. The funeral will be Friday, May 2, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Jerry Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Family has requested memorial donations be made in Carmen's name to either Orchard Crest Baptist Church Building Fund, 320 S. Orchard Crest Ave., Springfield, MO 65802; Elks Lodge 409 Scholarship Fund, 2223 E. Bennett St., Springfield, MO 65804 or the MS Society, 1675 E. Seminole, Ste. J, Springfield, MO 65804.
