Chlorene Hedgpeth, age 94, of Ozark, passed away December 24, 2012, after a sudden illness. She was born June 28, 1918 in the Pembina Community, the daughter of G. William and Laura (Williams) Blevins. A lifelong resident of Christian County, she was a 1936 graduate of Ozark High School and resided in Ozark her entire adult life.
Chlorene was well known for her dedication to her family and friends and for her unwavering commitment to Ozark Bank where she served in many capacities, most recently as Chairman Emeritus. Never retiring, she worked every day for 53 years at the bank. For nearly 50 of those years, she was the first to arrive and the last to leave. She greeted customers by name and always wished them a good day. She was recently honored by the Missouri Bankers Association as a 50-year member. She helped to ensure the highest standards of conduct and performance in the State banking industry through her involvement with the Missouri State Banking Board, Missouri Bankers Association, Missouri Women Bankers, Missouri Independent Bankers Association, and Independent Community Bankers of America.
Chlorene was known throughout Ozark for her commitment to the community. She served on Boards of the Ozark Community Action Center and the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program. She supported the Ozark Chamber of Commerce, the Finley River Community Foundation, and served as Committee Woman of the Christian County Republican Party for over 15 years. Chlorene was a life-long member of the Ozark Christian Church.
Survivors include her son, John F."Fred" Hedgpeth II and wife Mary Teresa of Ozark; her daughter Laura Haseltine and husband J. Mark Haseltine of Springfield; seven grandchildren, Kathryn Michelle Hedgpeth, Laurie Ann (Hedgpeth) Stokes and husband Cody, Abbie Elizabeth Hedgpeth, John Robert Hedgpeth, Sarah Jane (Haseltine) Van Tassel and husband Peter, Justin Mark Haseltine, and Alice Marie Haseltine; one sister Ella Jean Maynard and husband Dwight, Long Beach, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband John Frederick Hedgpeth (1975), her son, Daniel Franklin Hedgpeth (2009), three brothers and one sister.
Chlorene wished to have a private memorial service in her home with family in attendance. Visitation is Friday, December 28, from 4:30 - 6:30 in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark. She requested cremation with interment in Ozark City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and in keeping with her commitment to the community, the family has established a memorial fund in her name with the Finley River Community Foundation: Chlorene Hedgpeth Fund, PO Box 1176, Ozark, MO 65721, or in care of the funeral home.
