Lois Melton

Lois Lucille Melton, 97, was born March 7, 1917 in Elk Creek, Missouri and died April 14, 2014 in Blue Springs, Missouri.

Mrs. Melton was the daughter of George William and Nancy (Hargrove) Waters. She graduated from Missouri State University and taught high school science and home economics at Ava, Marshfield and Niangua. She married Dr. George James Melton on December 24, 1943 and lived in Marshfield until retiring and moving to Springfield in 1995. Lois loved learning and teaching and taught Sunday school classes after retiring. She was a member of Webster 439 Order of the Eastern star and served as Worthy Matron. She was active in the Marshfield PTA, Art League and Retired Teachers. Lois also was an active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Springfield.

Lois was predeceased by her husband George in 2011; her parents; her brother, Carl and his wife, Dollie; and her sister, Juanita and her husband, Lyman.

She is survived by her son, James W. Melton and wife, Connie, of Otto, North Carolina; her daughter, Linda Wiggins and husband, Lynn, of Blue Springs, Missouri; six grandchildren, David Rudloff and wife, Stacie, Melinda Wiggins, George Melton, James Melton, Melanie Wiggins Reece and her husband, Nathan, and Amanda Melton; four great grandchildren, Sierra Rudloff, Derek Rudloff, Carter Reece and Linley Reece; and one great-great grandchild, Peyton Rudloff.

Graveside services will be at 9:00 a.m. Friday, April 18, in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield. Visitation will be from 6-7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 17, in Fraker Funeral Home, Marshfield.
