Richard Gray Jr.

Richard Gray Jr, Springfield MO died May 21, 2011 after a storm with cancer. He was born August 2, 1936 to Richard and Emma Gray on Dewey Ware's Plantation in the Delta, Itta Bena, Miss. He went to Chicago Heights area at the age of 16 with $2 and the clothes he was wearing. He worked in Chicago Heights, Chicago area driving a truck and operating heavy equipment. He worked hard, enjoyed his "trade" and was able to get a job on his name. He retired in 1999 with Teamster Local 731. He started a "hobby" of lawn mowing. Richard was baptized on Pillow Plantation at Brooklyn Chapel as a young boy. Richard developed his personal relationship with Jesus later in life. Richard professed and showed Jesus was his Savior by his changes in his life. Richard loved his Church family at Washington Avenue Baptist Church Springfield Mo. He was an active member.

His family tree includes wife, Sharon; children, Jessica and Jeff Gray of the home in Springfield Mo. Richard loved all his children the same which included 14 children; 22 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. He is known as Billy, Or Uncle Billy by family of 3 sisters; nieces; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers; 5 sisters; infant daughter.

Richard volunteered at Crosslines through Church distributing food for Holidays. He believed no child should be hungry. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Crosslines Organization 1710 E Chestnut Expressway, Springfield, Mo. www.crosslines.org

Visitation will be held Friday 5/27/2011 6-8pm in Klinger-Cope Funeral Home Midtown 1635 N Benton. Funeral will be Saturday 5/28/2011 11 am at Washington Ave Baptist Church 1722 N. National Ave.
