Roa Wainscott

Roa Elizabeth (Payne) Wainscott, age 95 of Bolivar, MO passed away after a short illness, September 23, 2013 at Parkview Healthcare Facility in Bolivar.

Roa Elizabeth was born August 25, 1918 in Newtonia, MO. She was the oldest daughter of Jesse Russell and Grace (Estes) Payne.

After graduating from Bolivar High School in 1936, she attended State Teachers College (MSU) in Springfield, MO. She taught school one year at Mt. Etna, a one-room school near Bolivar.

On May 21, 1939, Ferrol Evans Wainscott and Roa were united in marriage. They farmed for 50 years in the Polk community until they moved to Bolivar in 1989.

Roa was an excellent seamstress who made most of the family's clothing. She taught clothing in 4-H many years and was active in P.T.A. She was supportive and encouraging in every activity of her children and her husband. Her favorite pastimes were piecing quilts by hand and other handwork. She loved crossword puzzles and playing scrabble. Roa attended and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bolivar.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ferrol, an infant brother Marvin, her parents, a step-brother Herman, and 2 step-sisters, Fern and Martha.

Surviving Roa are her children, 4 daughters, Jo Ann Johnson and husband Bill of Houston, MO; Rosalie Grogan of Bolivar, MO; Christa Gideon and husband Hank of Strafford, MO; Karen Gravely and husband Bill of Warrensburg, MO; and 1 son, Victor Wainscott and wife Linda of Bolivar, MO; Also surviving are her 3 sisters, Ava Granneman of Bolivar, MO; Eva Voris of Bolivar, MO; and Iva Rust of Houston, MO; Also her step-sister Ruth Jones.

Roa is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Ginny Chamberlain of Bolivar, MO; Rocky Chamberlain and wife Nicole of Tulsa, OK; Willie Johnson and wife Susan of Houston, MO; Rochelle Puryear and husband Scott of Springfield, MO; Sterling Wainscott and wife Kathleen of Santa Clarita, CA; Stephanie Lloyd and husband Mark of Webb City, MO; Jessica Snead and husband Doug of Independence, MO; Page Gravely of Kansas City, MO; and Scott Gravely and wife Kassie of Independence, MO. She is also survived by her 13 Great Grandchildren. Lily and Kendall Johnson, Joshua Chamberlain, Jack and Hannah Chamberlain, Marcus, Paige, Nate and Abbi Puryear, D'Mitri Lloyd, Clayton, Coleman and Elliot Snead and Addison Gravely. A host of many of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives also survive.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 am Thursday, September 26, 2013 at the Butler Funeral Home Chapel, Bolivar, Missouri with Ray Leininger officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Bolivar.

There will be a special visitation Wednesday, September 25, from 6:00 pm to 7:30pm at the funeral home.
