Robert Jean Swan

Robert Jean Swan, age 84, of Springfield, passed away March 5, in his home. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born June 20, 1928 in Hannibal, Mo. to Kenneth and Helen (Dodd) Swan. He graduated from Hannibal High School and immediately began a career in the military. He retired from the Air Force after 26 years in 1974. Bob had honorably served in World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. He was also the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal.

Bob truly loved his family, his home, and of course the family Beagle, Maddie. He excelled in woodworking, gardening, and any kind of home repair. Bob was a Mason, a Shriner, and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Bob is survived by the love of his life, Alberta (Birdie). They were married December 25, 1949 in Shelbina, Mo. He is also survived by his two daughters, Barbara and Ron Gielow of Springfield, Linda and Joe Baker of Wellington, Kansas. He was blessed with four grandchildren: Derek Gielow, Susie Gielow of Springfield, and Leigh Michelle (Rob) Sands and Brett (Julie) Baker all of Lawrence, Kansas. He had one great-grandson, Wyatt.

Funeral services will be held for the family on Friday, March 8 in Grandview Cemetery in Hannibal, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bob's name to Hospice and Palliative Care of Springfield.
