Phyllis Acker Obituary

Phyllis J. Acker, 78, of Springfield, Missouri passed away at 8:53 p.m., Sunday, August 22, 2010, in St. John's Hospital. She was a thirty-six year employee of the Assembly of God Headquarters and was a member of Evangel Temple. Phyllis had a great love for growing flowers and was a member of the Rose Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Acker. She is survived by a son, John Acker, of Springfield; a grandson, Jack Acker, of Springfield; a granddaughter, Amy Edwards, of Cicero, New York; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Avery Edwards; a sister-in-law, Donna Acker, of Springfield; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, August 30, 2010, in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel, with the Reverend Charlie Arsenault officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday in the funeral home.

I met Mrs. Acker in the mid-1960's at the A/G Kids Camp. I only knew her for that one week as my counselor, but she made such an impact on my life that I never forgot her name.
