Alex Louis Grassi, Sr., of Springfield, MO, passed away Friday, December 7, 2012, after a short battle with lung cancer. He was born April 19, 1922 in Kansas City, MO, and was adopted at birth by wonderful parents, Louis and Verna Grassi, Hume, MO, whom he loved dearly. He spent his early years in Hume, MO where he graduated from high school. In 1941 he married Ivadell Cobb.

Mr. Grassi was a World War II veteran. While in service, he and Ivadell traveled to Colorado, Wisconsin, Illinois, Florida, and Louisiana. When he was called overseas, he served in the European Theatre in Germany as a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force.

Mr. Grassi worked at Beech Aircraft in Wichita, KS, for several years. He also worked for Lily Tulip, Springfield, MO in the 1950s. He found his calling as an over-the-road truck driver working for Jack Cooper Transport and later Trans-Con where he retired.

The family spent many memorable years in Moore, OK before moving back to Springfield in 1978.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Louis Frederick. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Ivadell; son, Alex Jr., both of the home; a sister, Joanne Grassi, Fort Scott, KS; two special nieces, Jennifer Morris, Fair Grove, MO and Nan Berry, Overland Park, KS; many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

The family would like to thank Access Home Health Care Agency for their compassion with Mr. Grassi, Woodland Manor, Hospice, and friends and neighbors who have been kind to the family.
