Betty Lou Cunningham
Betty Lou Cunningham, age 84, of Springfield, Missouri, formerly of Crystal City, Missouri passed away Monday, April 15, 2013 at the Manor at Elfindale in Springfield. She was born August 11, 1928 in Plattin, Missouri, the first of four children of the late Bessie Lee (nee Miller) and Charles Ewald Schmidt. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Milton Cunningham, an infant sister Martha Deanna Schmidt and a brother Charles Schmidt.
She is survived by a sister Patricia Grieshaber and husband Pete of Springfield, a sister-in-law Lucy Schmidt, nieces Ann Grieshaber McVey and husband Randy, Susan Schmidt Johnston and husband Barry, nephews Mark Grieshaber and wife Debbie, Robert Grieshaber and wife Jimmie, Jeffrey Schmidt and Jason Schmidt and wife Prissy, longtime friend Marguerite Burns of Festus, numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
In life, Betty was a beautiful, kind and thoughtful person. She received her teaching degree from Southeast Missouri State University and taught for 40 years, most of those at Festus Elementary from where she retired in 1984. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Festus/Crystal City, Delta Kappa Gamma Teaching Sorority and the Jefferson County and Missouri Retired Teacher's Associations.
Visitation 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus, then after 10:00 A.M. until the time of services at 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 19, 2013 at First United Methodist Church of Festus/Crystal City, officiated by Rev. Gary Grey, Pastor. Interment in National Cemetery in Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.
