Lester W. Wilkerson

Lester W. Wilkerson, Ash Grove, left his earthly home, Monday, December 3, 2012 surrounded by his loving family, to join his beloved family and friends that had preceded him to heaven.

Lester, the son of Charley and Ruth Foust Wilkerson was born, November 16, 1926 near Everton, Missouri. His age was 86 years and 17 days.

He grew up in the Everton and Ash Grove areas and graduated from Ash Grove High School in 1944. He enlisted into the military and was an Army Veteran serving in World War II. He served for two years in occupied Japan.

Lester was a retired prominent Ash Grove businessman and cared deeply for his community. He, with his father Charley, and brother-in-law Jim Buckley Sr. owned & operated Wilkerson Ford Agency in Ash Grove for 50 years. During his career he was a board member on numerous boards with Ford and Company. He was active throughout his life with civic and fraternal organizations including, Ash Grove Chamber of Commerce. Ash Grove Masonic Lodge #100 A.F. & A.M., and was a great supporter of the Ash Grove School athletic programs.

He had a great love for horses and with his great friend, Troy Maples, traveled and were known throughout the state and regional horse circuits.

Lester was a longtime active member of the Ash Grove First Christian Church. He served as an elder, especially enjoyed the choir and the fellowship with the monthly men's breakfast group.

Lester Wilkerson and Betty Piper were united in marriage on April 10, 1948. To this union a daughter was born. Together they were privileged to share over 64 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Willard Wilkerson; and sister and brother-in-law, Hildred and Jim Buckley, Sr.

He is survived by his loving family: his wife, Betty of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Mike Rankin of Springfield, Mo.; sister-in-law, Robbye Wilkerson, of Ash Grove; and two sisters-in-law: Beverly Lynn and Bobby Kirby, of Everton, Mo. and Carolyn and husband Paul Hickman of Springfield, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held in the Ash Grove First Christian Church on Friday, December 7, 2012 at

11:00 a.m. with Rev. Tom Geer officiating with interment following in Ash Grove Cemetery,

Ash Grove, Mo. Military Honors will under the auspices of the Mo. Military Honors Team.

All services will be under the care and direction of Wilson Brim Daniel Funeral Home of

Ash Grove, Mo. Friends may call after 4:30 p.m. (today) Thursday in the Ash Grove Chapel until 8:30 p.m. No formal visitation.

Memorials may be given in his memory to the Ash Grove First Christian Church Memorial Fund, Sunshine Senior Center, or Seasons Hospice of Springfield, Mo.

The family would like to express our appreciation for Seasons Hospice and the exceptional caregivers that helped us during Lester's time in his home.
