Norma Ilene Mauldin Obituary
Norma Ilene Mauldin

Norma Ilene (Ellison) Mauldin, 93, passed away January 13 in Louisville, Kentucky where she had lived for the past three years with her husband of 64 years, James, and near a son and his family.

Norma was born in 1919 in Crane, Missouri to the late Bill and Norva Ellison. She graduated from Crane High School in 1937 before moving to Springfield to attend what is now Missouri State University; graduating in 1941. She then taught school in Cabool for a year before moving back to Springfield.

A genteel person, Norma always enjoyed being of service to others. During World War II she was a surgical assistant at O'Reilly Army Hospital and years later was very active in the PTA programs at Sunshine Elementary, Jarrett Middle School and Parkview High School. She also worked in administration for the Shawnee Mission School District in suburban Kansas City for a number of years. Known for her dry sense of humor, she loved working and socializing with members of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and its numerous charitable causes. Over the years, Norma was a member and elder at one time of First & Calvary Presbyterian Church. She was also an avid Lady Bears fan.

In addition to her husband, James, Norma is survived by sons Phil (Molly) of Atlanta and Greg (Sue) of Louisville; sister-in-law, Margaret Ellison; nephews Gary (Janet) Ellison & Jim Ellison; and eight grand children and four great grand children. In addition to her parents, Norma's brothers, Olyn and 2 Lt. J.D. Ellison, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. The burial will be at 9:00 a.m. Friday, January 18, in Missouri Veterans Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Dr. Gary Stratman officiating.

The family would also like to extend special thanks to the residents and numerous staff members of Parr's at Springhurst Assisted Living in Louisville, who helped make her life enjoyable.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Norma's name can be made to Friends of the Garden at Close Memorial Park; First & Calvary Presbyterian Church; or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
