Richard F. Huff

Richard Farris Huff, 90, of Springfield passed away at 4:20 p.m. Friday Nov. 16th, 2012 at his home. He was born January 16th, 1922 in Gilliam (Saline County), Mo to Richard A. and Jewell Netherton Huff. He graduated from Slater High School and then went on to Central Missouri State to continue his education. He and his two brothers were all members of Phi Sigma Alpha Fraternity and each served as chapter president. While attending college Richard was called to the Army when WWII began; he served in the 10th Armored Division (European Theater). He married his wife, Mayme Moye Huff, July 2nd. 1948. After military service and college graduation he and his brothers all worked for Proctor and Gamble. Several years later they bought a dry cleaning plant in St. Joseph, Mo. After his brothers were called to the Korean War and Richards calling pending, they gave the business back to the original owner and Richard moved his family back to Lebanon, Mo and began working for Montgomery Motor Co. He moved to Springfield while working at Montgomery Motors and decided to make a career change in 1963 to Great Southern Savings and Loan, where he began a long association with Russell Cather and Bill Turner. He worked there for 33 years retiring in 1996 as Executive Vice-President.

Richard was a member of Downtown Kiwanis Club, S.E. Rotary Club, Home Builders Association, Jaycees,, S.W. Mo. Chapter of The Bank Administration Institute and National Association of Accountants. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, member of Solomon Lodge #271 AF&AM, Scottish Rite and Abou Ben Adhem Shrine. He was also a long-time advisor for Springfield's Junior Achievement Program. He and his family became members of Schweitzer UMC in 1955 shortly after moving to Springfield.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mayme in Dec. 31, 2008; a brother; Horace A. Huff; two sisters; Grace Cott and Agnes Cott; and one grandchild; Amy E. Huff.

He is survived by his four sons; Keith (Pam) Huff, David Huff, Jim (Lynn) Huff, and Dan Huff; one brother; Harry R. Huff; one sister; Doris (Kenneth) Cott; three grandchildren; Katherine (Jeff) Brinkman, Elizabeth Huff, and Sarah (Nick) Gorman; and three great grandchildren; Olivia Brinkman, Jack Brinkman, and Anthony Gorman.

Visitation for Richard will be held Monday, Nov. 19th from 5pm-7pm at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial services will be Tuesday, Nov. 20th at 10am at Hazelwood Cemetery with Memorial Services following at 11am at Schweitzer UMC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Schweitzer United Methodist Church; 2747 E Sunshine in Springfield, MO.
