He was born on March 20, 1938 south of Macomb, Missouri in Wright County. He was raised in Mansfield by his maternal grandmother, Cora Stewart. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother Cora, his mother, Fearn, and a half-brother, Bert Smith.
