Twyla (Putman) Hutsell was born June 16, 1919, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Williamson) Putman. She departed this life on June 14, 2012. A life-long resident of Greene County, Twyla graduated from Pleasant Hope High School. Twyla later worked at Producers Produce during WWII.
On October 26, 1946 Twyla married Dale H. Hutsell after the end of WWII. He preceded her in death in March of 2001. From their marriage they had two sons, Steve and Paul. Twyla was an expert seamstress and loved making anything from spare material that she had on hand. Anyone who is lucky enough to have received one of her afghans or rag rugs should feel extremely blessed. Twyla was a very frugal person having lived through the Depression as a young girl. She used to say that they didn't know there was a Depression, that's the way they lived all the time. She could make a meal fit for a king from very little. She would can fruit and vegetables from the garden to hold the family over very adequately through the next winter. She was truly a self-sufficient woman while placing her family first behind herself.
Twyla loved her Lord Jesus Christ all the days of her life and attended New Salem Methodist Church from the time she was a baby. Her life was guided by the promises that God put forth in His word.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Luetta Affini; half-sisters, Iva Hall, Hattie Lamar and Mabel James and half-brother, Housely Putman.
She is survived by two sons, Steve Hutsell and wife Gina of Galena, MO and their daughters, Stevie, Danni and Nikki, Paul Hutsell and wife Charlotte of Springfield, MO and their children, Rachel and Ryan; nieces, Madeline Bounous of Edinburg, TX and Lee Archer of Johnson City, TN and Cindy Sparks of Springfield; nephew, Rick Hutsell of Ozark; great niece, Yvonne Kautsch of McAllen, TX; great nephew, Lyman Bounous of McAllen, TX; and sister-in-law, Crystal Smith of Springfield.
One of the problems of living a long life is seeing the passing of so many of the friends you have made during your life. Her wisdom, dedication, candid humor and prayers will be missed by all around her and she will be with her Lord Jesus Christ forever.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, June 18, 2012 in Greenlawn Funeral Home North with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 17, 2012 from 3-5 p.m., in the funeral home. Online condolences can be made at www.greenlawnfuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Salem UMC or left at the funeral home.
