Gerald Edward Glass, age 75, of Springfield, MO passed away Feb. 11, 2014 after a 15 year battle with cancer.
Gerald was born April 28, 1938 in Mountain View, MO to the late Marvin and Myrtle Glass. He graduated from Mountain View High School and moved to Springfield to attend SMSU. Following his studies, he served four years in the Air Force. He then enrolled in the Missouri School of Mines and earned his degree in Engineering. He also attended and taught at the University of Arkansas. During this time, he married Kay Mooneyham. Gerald began his engineering career at Paul Mueller in Springfield, MO. Later, he joined Custom Metalcraft, where he worked for over 20 years until his retirement.
Gerald had a great appreciation for mechanics. This was demonstrated not only by his engineering degree but by his collection of motorcycles and vehicles over the years. In his mid 40's, he began running and it quickly became a way of life. He was a member and past President of the Ozark Mountain Ridge Runners.
Preceding him in death were his parents and sisters, Marvalene Gustafson and Regina Glass.
He is survived by his children, Brady Glass and girlfriend Annie Buckner of Nixa, MO, Cecily Laney and husband Lance Laney of Springfield, MO.; two brothers, Dayne Glass and wife Ruth, and Richard Glass and wife Marilyn; and grandchildren, Bailey Glass, Paige Laney, and Bryce Laney.
Services will be held at 2:00pm, Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East, no graveside following. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00pm Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the funeral home.
