Marion L. Cooper

Marion L. Cooper, Maj. USA (Ret.) loving husband, father, papa, uncle and friend departed this life on March 3, 2014. Marion was born Aug. 3, 1938 to Rex & Clara Cooper in Springfield Mo. In 1960 he married Linda McGee and they enjoyed 53 wonderful years. He is survived by his wife, three children: Royce (Kevin) Cooper (wife Mona), LaDea Hutfless (husband Joe), and Ross Cooper; five grandchildren: Robin Murphy, Chelsea Chamberlain (husband Lucas), Sarah Cooper, Brayden and Cooper Hutfless; three great grandchildren: Kaiya, JaKahri, and Jeffrey: a niece and two nephews; lifetime friends Bob and Judy Carr, and Sue Leighton.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Rex Cooper, Jr. and Norman Cooper, and a lifelong friend Noble Leighton.

Marion graduated from SMSU in 1959 with a BS in Mathematics. He was a charter member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He served his country in the US Army in both active and reserve duty for 26 years.

Through his career life he worked 14 years for State Farm Insurance as a claims adjuster, 32 years as a Legal Assistant with the last 12 of those years working for Bussell & Hall.

Marion loved to work in the yard, going to the beach, playing cards, fishing, and traveling with family and friends. He loved and treasured his family, and will be missed by them beyond words.

A celebration of his life will be held Monday March 10, 2014 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home at 12:30pm.
