Walter Eugene "Gene" Parker Obituary
Walter Eugene "Gene" Parker

Walter Eugene "Gene" Parker, 68 of Springfield was born on January 26, 1946 to Walter E. "Tiny" and Lois M. "Peachie" (Blankenship) Parker. He passed away on April 4, 2014.

He graduated from Central High, class of 1964, was the owner of Parkers' Market, a restaurant manager for Tiny's Smokehouse with his father and 11 years as a school bus driver for Springfield public schools with a perfect safety record. He was the recipient of the Safe Driver award, enjoyed playing racquetball, running, playing pool with old friends on a weekly basis, and following the stock market.

Gene is survived by his wife Carol; children, Wesley, Jeff and wife Jamila, Scott and wife Allison, Julie Lancaster and husband Chris, Jennifer Ferguson and husband John; grandchildren, Katie, Emilee and Todd Lancaster, Autumn and Jaxon Ferguson; aunt, Vivian West; sisters, Becky Rhoden, Patty Bennett and husband Lester; many nephews, nieces, and cousins; mother-in-law, Jo Jensen and sister-in-law, Susan Jensen

Gene had a funny and dry sense of humor that made people at ease and kept them laughing. He was sensitive, thoughtful and caring. He dearly loved his wife, sons, daughters, and grandchildren, and was equally adored by them in return. He especially loved to hold his grandchildren at every opportunity. Gene bravely battled myeloma since 2003 and hated to complain or burden others. There will be a very empty place in the family without him, but his spirit and character lives on in his survivors.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Westside Health Care-Birchwood, his family doctor, Dr. John H Brown, M.D. and his oncologist Dr. Lavanya Tiriveedhi, M.D. for their car through the years. The family particularly wishes to thank Tina Drews of Westside Health Care for her support and love.

Memorial donations may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF), 383 Main Avenue, 5th Floor, Norwalk, CT 06851 or to the Chronic Disease Fund, 6900 N. Dallas Parkway, Suite 200, Plano, TX 75024.

A service will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at 2:00 pm in Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at White Chapel, 5234 W State Hwy EE (Division), Springfield, MO. Interment will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Pastor Travis Edwards of Orchard Crest Baptist Church will officiate the service.
