Marietta Hartley Leininger passed away in Watauga, Texas, on April 15,2014.
Marietta was born in rural Mercer County, Mo. on September 20, 1915, daughter of Lora and Oscar Hartley. She grew up there with brothers, Forrest and Joseph Wayne Hartley. She graduated from Mercer High School in 1933. She attended Northwest Missouri College, then taught in a one room school where she was raised. April, 1936, she married Jay B. Bryan, a high school classmate. This union produced one son, Barry Bryan, born in Kansas City, where Jay and Marietta worked together at the North American Aviation plant during World War II. Marietta actively pursued self-improvement as a working wife in the 1950's, during which she held numerous, ever more responsible jobs.
Marietta divorced in 1961 and moved to Naperville, IL. Marietta was employed at Oak Brook Bank. She married Mark C.Leininger in 1962. Together, they entered retirement in 1975 and moved to Springfield, Mo. that year. Marietta moved to Ft. Worth, Texas area in 2007 to be with son Barry and grandsons. She resided at assisted living facilities in Watauga, Texas from December 2007, until her death.
Marietta was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, as well as her husband. She is survived by her son and grandsons: Wesley Bryan of Watauga, Texas, Robert Bryan and wife Melissa of Ft. Worth; and nephew Charles Hartley and wife Lois of Mercer and their children: Cheryl, Joe Dale, Linda and John and their families.
Arrangements are made through Greenlawn Funeral Home South, Springfield, Mo. Visitation will be Monday 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. in the Greenlawn Battlefield address. Services will be graveside at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 22, 2014 in Hazelwood Cemetery in Springfield.
