Vaulta Marie Montgomery

Holding hands with her husband and daughter, Vaulta Marie Montgomery passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus May 29, 2014.

She was born September 6, 1921 on a farm near Greenwood, AR to Orbie and Ella Smith. A graduate of Boonville Arkansas High School, Vaulta also attended Elgin College of Watchmaking in 1942.

Vaulta married Arnold Montgomery June 2, 1939 in Boonville, AR. To this union two children were born, Leigh Nelson and Patricia Pendleton. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Leigh Nelson of St. Clair, MO; her brother, Joe Smith of Broken Arrow, OK; and her sister, Billie Morrison of Albuquerque, NM.

Vaulta is survived by her husband, Arnold; her daughter, Patricia (Billy) Pendleton; her sister, Francis (Jack) Davis of Albuquerque, grandchildren, Sean Bair, Christy (Dennis) Michael, Jennifer (Bobby) Nelson; five great-grandchildren, and six nieces and nephews.

Vaulta worked for many years in the jewelry business, starting with the Montgomery & Taylor Jewelry Company in Poplar Bluff, MO. Moving with her husband to Springfield in 1954, she worked alongside him at a watch repair booth in Heer's department store. Moving on to become the right-hand employee for Moe Fayman of Fayman's Jewelry (also on the square), Vaulta topped off her career as the store manager of Zale's on Commercial Street.

Vaulta was baptized in the Greenwood (Arkansas) Church of Christ in a river in 1933. She has been a long time member of the South National and East Sunshine Churches of Christ and most recently of the Sunset Church of Christ. Vaulta was a wonderful cook and a great friend to many people. She enjoyed playing golf, traveling, spending time with family, and most of all... fishing. She made friends easily and maintained a closeknit relationship with members of her bridge club for over 40 years. With a loving heart, Vaulta never spoke ill of anyone and never had a cross word with friends or family. She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

The family would like to thank the staff of Preferred Hospice who so lovingly made Vaulta's life transition more bearable for all, to our brothers and sisters of Sunset Church of Christ whose prayers lifted our spirits, to Jillan Gray (caregiver) and to Tammy Phillips (caregiver) who compassionately and lovingly cared for Vaulta for these last two years.

Visitation will be Monday June 2, 2014 from 6-8 p.m in Greenlawn Funeral Home South. Funeral service will be Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. She will be buried in the Montgomery Cemetery, in Poplar Bluff on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 around noon.
