Delores J. Evans

Delores J. (Miller) Evans, 76, of Springfield, MO, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at her home. She was born on June 18, 1937, to Elza and Opal (Watts) Miller in Squires, Missouri.

Delores was a 1955 dual high school graduate: Ava High School, Ava, Missouri, where she was a majorette of the high school band; and Pendleton High School in Pendleton, Oregon. She met her beloved husband, Bill Joe Evans, originally from Hartville, Missouri, while they both were in Oregon. They were united in marriage on April 28, 1956. To this union, one precious daughter was born, Melodi Bare. Delores retired from AT & T April 1, 1987, after 32 years of service. She enjoyed reading and tending to her flowers, especially African Violets. Delores was a Lady Shriner and a member of the Elks Lodge.

Delores is survived by her husband, Bill Evans; daughter, Melodi Bare and her husband, Marty; sister, Susan Lewis; brother, Harold Miller and his wife, Dee; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of many loving and supporting friends through her journey. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers: Delmar, Granvel and Willard Miller.

The family wants to sincerely thank her doctors and their staff, Dr. Nelson De La Rosa, Dr. Jay Carlson, Mercy Home Health Care Nurse Dianna Bartalotta, Bath Aide Kerry Hicks (her ray of sunshine), the entire staff of The Neighborhoods at Quail Creek, Mercy Hospice Nurse Jennifer Pemberton and Chaplain Mike Herr.

A visitation will be held Saturday, June 7, 2014, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, Springfield, Missouri. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2014, at 3:00 PM at the funeral home. Delores will inurned at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, Missouri, on Monday, June 9, 2014, at 9:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: The Shriners Hospital for Children at; - 3023 S Fort - Suite B, Springfield, MO; and/or Care Animal Rescue - - 2012 W Gaton Road, Ozark, MO 65721.
