Jean Day Robeson

Jean Day Robeson, 72, of Springfield, MO. passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO.

She was born on September 17, 1941 in Jenkinjones, West Virginia to Glen and Bessie Day and was raised in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia in a close-knit and loving family with 8 brothers and sisters.

Jean graduated from Gary High School, Gary, West Virginia in 1959 where she was the drum majorette for the marching band. After high school she moved to Hampton, Virginia where she was united in marriage to James L. Robeson on January 3, 1961 at Langley Air Force Base. Jean and Jim were blessed with two children, son James M. Robeson and daughter Jennifer Robeson Brazeale.

She retired in 2007 after 27 years of service as office manager with MHC Kenworth in Springfield, MO. In retirement, she actively volunteered with Mercy Hospice for 7 years. She loved spending time with family and friends at Table Rock Lake and was a member of the Rice Camp Ladies organization since 1999.

Preceding Jean in death were her parents, Glen and Bessie, sisters Anna and Agnes, brothers Clayton, Glenn Ray, Harold and Ron, father-in-law James F. (Shorty) Robeson and Glenn Robeson.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Jim, her son Jimmy and wife Robin of Springfield, MO., daughter Jennifer Brazeale and husband Jack of Ozark, MO., brother George Day and wife Loretta of Yorktown, VA., sister Bonnie Whitley and husband Reese of Bedford, VA., Carol Day of Newport News, VA., Otella Robeson of Springfield, MO., Cheryl Spence and husband Keith of Sterlington, LA., and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 23, 2014 with services immediately following at 11:00 AM at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, Springfield, MO. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the in Jean's memory.
