Mary Martin

Mary Sanford Martin, 89, died on Friday, June 20, 2014 surrounded by her family.

She was born in Springfield, Missouri on January 30, 1925, to Grady H. and Harriet P. Sanford. After graduating from Greenwood High School in 1942, she attended Drury College where she obtained a degree in mathematics and was a member of Pi Beta Phi. She attended the graduate school of Fordham University in New York. She was a charter member of Junior League of Springfield, a member of Christ Episcopal Church and volunteered for many years at the Next to New Shop affiliated with the church. Mary was a devoted wife and mother who loved life and always put her family ahead of herself. She also enjoyed playing weekly bridge games with friends. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Clyde H. "Bud" Martin, and her brothers, William P. Sanford and Paul Sanford. She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Wherry, of Kansas City, MO; daughter, Terry Martin, of Kansas City, MO; daughter, Barbara Remisovsky, of Abilene, TX; son, Tom Martin and daughter-in-law, Jody, of Springfield, MO; and daughter, Christy Agosta and son-in-law, Sal, of Danbury, CT. She was blessed with five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

There will be a graveside service at Eastlawn Cemetery in Springfield, MO at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 24, 2014. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 601 E Walnut, Springfield, MO, 65806. Arrangements are under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
