Betty (Almyra E.) Dunlop

Betty (Almyra E.) Dunlop, 81, of Springfield, MO passed away on June 23 of natural causes. She was born on August 4, 1932 in Louisiana Missouri to Glennon Boyd and Ada Taylor Boyd. Betty was a graduate of Springfield Senior High (Central) and attended Southwest Missouri State College (MSSU).

Betty was married to James S. Dunlop, Sr. and she managed to raise four boys and a girl (a fifth boy died four days after birth) who were actively involved in sports and school related activities. With her husband a high school coach, it was her job to get all of the kids to their numerous activities. Although she was retired for a number of years, Betty stayed active by volunteering at the library, attending her grandchildren's activities, following the St. Louis Cardinals, and spending time with her long-time friends from high school.

Betty, is survived by her sons, Stu and wife Penny, and Jerry and wife Debbie, a daughter, Jennifer Price and her husband Kirk, 9 wonderful grandchildren and a soon to be born great-grandbaby. She was preceded in death by her husband, James S. (Jim) Dunlop, Sr., and three sons, John, Jeff, and Jay.

The family would like to say a special thanks to Dr. Dominic Meldi and his nurse, Jennifer Baxter whose care for our Mom over the last 10 years extended her life so the family could enjoy her as long as we were able.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, June 26 at Hazelwood Cemetery, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the Jim, John, and Jeff Dunlop Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Springfield Public Schools foundation, 1131 Booneville, Springfield, Mo 65802 or online at
