Doris Lavina (Hicks) Wommack

Doris Wommack, 88, of Aurora, MO (formerly of Strafford went into the arms of Jesus at 1:14 a.m. on July 16, 2014 at Mercy Hospital. She was born March 8, 1926, in Long Run, MO, to the Rev. Jack and Rosa (Hathcock) Hicks, the youngest of 6 children. She accepted Chrict as her savior in a church service at the age 0f 17.

Doris worked at Royal McBee Typewriter in Springfield until it closed and then worked in housekeeping at Holiday Inn and Mercy Hospital in Aurora. She also helped her husband in his carpentry work. On August 7, 1959, she married DeWayne Wommack and lived on their farm until September 1986, when they moved to Aurora to be near their daughter.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband DeWayne, her parents Jack and Rosa Hicks, two brothers: William and Lester, and two sisters: Dalie Johnson and Vacie Hicks. She is survived by her step-daughter, Barbara Wommack of Aurora, with whom she lived, and one sister Lucinda Maxwell of Benton, AR, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Doris loved to read, sew and do jigsaw puzzles. She taught Sunday School for almost 40 years at Bass Chapel Baptist Church and Aurora First Baptist Church. She was active in the mission work at church.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 18, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Aurora First Baptist Church, Aurora, MO. under direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield. Burial will be in Bass Chapel Cemetery north of Strafford, MO. No visitation is planed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Aurora First Baptist Church, or to the .
