William Clayton Walton, 88, Springfield, passed away Friday, August 1, 2014 in Mercy Hospital after a short illness.

He was born on January 31, 1926 in Rogersville, Missouri, the son of the late William Jasper and Grace Ann (Meese) Walton. He was united in marriage on August 15, 1948 to Imogene Mumford. She preceded him in death in 2012. He was also preceded in death by a son, William Christopher Walton; and two sisters, Loetta Cloud and Jenny Gould.

For most of his life, Clayton worked for St. Louis - San Francisco Railway (Frisco) and following his retirement in the 80's, he dedicated time to his real estate business. He was a member of Gate of the Temple Masonic Lodge No. 422, and Abou Ben Adhem Shrine for over 40 years, where he was active in the Director's Staff for many of those years.

During the 63 years that Clayton and Imogene were married, she was always the light of his life. They were members of several dance clubs, enjoyed traveling, and water skiing. He loved his family and was adored by many friends, acquaintances and on some occasions, by total strangers. He was always available to help anyone who needed him. Clayton was a kind and thoughtful man with a great sense of humor and a talent for spinning a yarn.
