Robert L. Gaddy

Robert L. Gaddy, 88, of Springfield, MO, passed away May 31, 2011 in his home with his family at his side.

Robert was born October 18, 1922 in Cherryvale, KS to William and Otha Gaddy, the youngest of seven children. His family moved to Monett, MO in 1930. He graduated from Monett High School in 1940 and proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Marines.

On March 31, 1946 he married the love of his life, Doris, and to this union, three children were born. Robert moved his family to Springfield, MO in 1964. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Springfield, MO and the Monett Masonic Lodge #129. Robert retired from Frisco Transportation in 1981 and was a member of Teamsters Local 245.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and infant daughter, Julia.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris; his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Marianne Gaddy, Pleasant Hope, MO; his son, Bob Gaddy, Topeka, KS; four granddaughters, Angela Russell, Kimberly Deel, Julie Gaddy, Chambrlyn Gaddy; one great-grandson, Riley Deel; and one great-granddaughter, Hallie Huske.

Funeral services will be Friday, June 3, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 525 South Avenue. The casket will be closed prior to the service. Burial with military honors will be at 2:00 p.m. at I.O.O. F. Cemetery, Monett, MO.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 2, 2011 from 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.

The family expresses our sincere gratitude to the staff of St. John's Hospital, Christian Healthcare East and Seasons Hospice for the care, love and compassion shown to Robert and his family during his brief illness.

Memorials in Robert's name may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, or Seasons Hospice.
