William B. "Bill" Cantrell

Mr. William B. "Bill" Cantrell, age 85, of Republic, MO passed away December 20, 2011. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday, December 22, at Hood United Methodist Church, 139 N. Walnut, Republic, MO 65738. Services will be 10:30 am Friday, December 23 at the church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Republic, MO. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the church. Online condolences may be shared at www.meadorsfuneralhome.com.

William "Bill" Bodine was born at Republic in 1926 to William Raymond and Etta Mae (Bodine) Cantrell. Bill attended for 12 years and graduated from Republic Schools. Bill enlisted in the US Navy in 1944 where he served his country in World War II. Bill returned in 1946 to attend Drury College prior to enrolling in Mortuary School in St. Louis, Missouri where he graduated in 1948. Bill married Shirley Jean Tooley of Mountain Grove, Missouri in 1947. Bill and Jean had 6 children: Gilda Sue, Pamela Ann, James William, Nancy Buenta, Edward Raymond, and Thomas Darin.

Bill and Jean purchased Fossett Funeral Home, later to become Cantrell Funeral Home, in Republic in 1955. In 1962 they purchased Funeral Homes in Clever and Billings Missouri. Bill, Jean and their family were members of the Republic Hood United Methodist Church. Bill was a member of The Masonic Lodge, was active with The Shriners. Bill and Jean retired from the Funeral Homes in 1974 and resided in Republic. After retirement, Bill drove a school bus for the Republic School System for 18 years. After the death of his wife, Shirley Jean who passed away in 1999, Bill met and married Lavera Jean Whittaker in 2001.

Bill also leaves fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
