Joy Jean (Bragg) Crocker

Joy Jean (Bragg) Crocker died Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Mo., at the age of 81 years. She was born February 22, 1931 in Goodman, Mo. and lived much of her early life in Carthage, Mo. and later settled in Springfield, Mo. Joy began her working career in 1950 in Carthage, Mo. as a telephone operator at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company (AT&T). She continued with SBC serving in many different positions and retired in 1991 after 41 years of service.

Joy was preceded in death by her beloved husband Leon Harvey "Lee" Crocker in 2000, after 44 wonderful, fulfilling years together; also by her parents, Lena Juliet (Rush) Bragg and August Clifton Bragg; two sisters, Laura Alice (Bragg) Abbott and Betty (Bragg) Burgard; and five brothers, Leo, Clifton, Vernon, Ray and Frank Bragg.

She is survived by two children, Lynette (Crocker) Walker of St. Louis, Mo. and Craig Crocker of Springfield, Mo; her sister Dorothy (Bragg) Brown of Neosho, Mo. and sister Margie (Bragg) Cooper of Hoisington, Kansas.; brother and sister-in-law Dr. Ron and Donna Bragg of Carthage, Mo; grandson Jamie Walker and wife Terri Walker of St. Louis, Mo. and two great grandchildren Nick and Maddie Walker; granddaughter April (Walker) Monaco and husband Tony Monaco of St. Louis, Mo. and two great grandchildren Rocco and Gianna Monaco.

Joy was as delightful and charming as her name - always ready with a beautiful smile for anyone and everyone and was kind and generous to all. When she was your friend, she was a determined advocate and "fixer" for your troubles and problems. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren adored their Nana. She was also a wonderful cook and all of the family had special dishes that she would fix for them. Pecan brittle was one of her specialties and was a favorite of everyone during Christmas. She would make many, many batches to give away to family and friends.

Joy dedicated her life to her family and friends. She was a loving and supportive mother, daughter, sister and grandmother to all who loved her very much and she will be greatly missed.

Services will be in Springfield, Mo. on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Klingner-Cope Chapel at Rivermonte with Dr. Ron Bragg officiating. Visitation will be from 1-3pm with service to follow.

We would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to the wonderful staff at James River Care and especially Jessica, Denise, Matt, Randall and Tricia. Also special thanks go out to the nurses and PCA's at St. John's Hospital, 4B. They were exceptionally caring and loving towards our mother and we will be forever grateful.

Memorial contributions may be made to or the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri.
