Mr. Randolph J. "Randy" Coggin, age 64, of Springfield, died on Saturday, June 23, 2012 in Branson, Missouri. Randy was born October 31, 1947 in Springfield, Missouri. He spent his early years growing up on a farm north of Republic. At the age of 13, his family moved into the city limits of Republic. Randy attended his entire elementary and secondary school years in Republic, graduating from Republic High School in 1965. Randy was a member of the 1963 Class M boys' state championship basketball team.
He graduated from SMS, (Missouri State University) in 1969 with a degree in Economics. Following graduation, Randy entered the United States Navy as a commissioned officer from the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He served his country during the Vietnam era aboard the USS Ashtabula.
Randy was married in 1971 to his wife, Barbara J. Search, whom he had met in California during his military service.
Following his military service, Randy returned to Missouri and completed his Masters in Business Administration from SMS, and later began a successful career in the insurance business. Randy initially began his career with Lincoln National Insurance Company, but later started his own agency with Brent Wilson, called Wilson-Coggin and Associates. Subsequently, he bought out his partner, and his agency became known as R J Coggin and Associates. His agency served mainly the group health insurance market in the Springfield and Branson areas.
Aside from his business, Randy was an avid boating enthusiast and simply loved Table Rock Lake. Randy was a member and former Commodore of the Ozarks Yacht Club. He was also a former long-term member of the Heart of the Ozarks Sertoma Club in Springfield.
Randy is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Springfield; a son, Seth and his wife Stacey, along with their children, Garrett, Laura, and Delaney, all of Ozark, Missouri; his parents, Herbert and Carol Coggin, of Republic; two brothers, Stan and his wife Cathie, of Springfield, and Brad and his wife Susan, from Republic; a sister, Marti Towe and her husband Randy, from Nixa; a sister-in-law, Carol Payne; nine nieces and nephews; and ten great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 27, 2012 in the Hood United Methodist Church, Christian Life Center, in Republic, under the direction of Meadors Funeral Home, Republic.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the church, in support of Scouting programs, or the Heart of the Ozarks Sertoma Club. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Online condolences and pictures may be made at www.meadorsfuneralhome.com
