Bob Lear

Robert Gene Lear, born August 5, 1931, in Rushville, IL, died December 29, 2012, in Springfield, MO. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Kinman; and adoptive parents, Oscar Lear and Lillie Moore.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley M. Lear; daughter, Roberta Lear and grandson, Jacob of Springfield, MO; daughter, Patricia Lear of Wheat Ridge, CO; daughter, Bonnie Abraham and husband Cliff; grandchildren, Kimber, Brandon, Rachael; step-granddaughter, Amanda of Oak Harbor, WA; and many cousins in the Rushville/Beardstown, IL, area.

Bob served in the U.S. Army and saw action in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1972 with 21 years of service including 3 tours in Korea, Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, Granite City Army Depot, IL, Karlsrhue and Grafenwoehr in Germany, Savanna Army Depot, IL, Thailand, and Vietnam. He then served as Chief of Police in Guttenberg, IA, and in Fulton, IL, and security officer of Colorado National Bank Tech Center, Denver, CO, before retiring to the Mountain Home, AR, area in 1991. There he managed a cattle ranch for several years and then moved to Brookline, MO, 9 years ago.

During his lifetime, he was active in the Rotary, Lions Club, and Kiwanis Club in Iowa, Illinois and Arkansas; a 31-year Mason in the Plum River Lodge in Illinois; lifetime member of MOAA; American Legion, and the National Explosive Ordinance Disposal Association (EOD).

At Mr. Lear's request, no formal services are planned. Cremation was under the direction of Walnut Lawn Funeral Home. For those who wish to make a memorial, the family suggests donations be made to Convoy of Hope, 330 S. Patterson Ave., Springfield, MO 65802, 417-823-8998.
