Mark Alan Rooney, 57, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2013, in Altus, OK, where he was killed in an industrial accident. He was born May 31, 1955 in Galesburg, IL to Marilyn (Hickle) and John Rooney. He currently resided in Springfield, MO.
Mark attended school in Galesburg and worked at Galesburg Sheet Metal as a sheet metal apprentice when he was a senior, graduating in 1973. He worked in several states on sheet metal projects, including nuclear power plants in IL. and CA. At the time of his death, he was working for H.G. Butzer of Jefferson City, MO.
He attended James River Assembly of God where he was an usher and belonged to a life group. Through the church, he often volunteered his time to help with construction projects for schools and individuals. He was a gentle kind man, who loved God and his children. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a diligent sheet metal worker for his whole life, priding himself in excellent work. He served God faithfully. He touched many hearts and people; he was a good honest man, and a good father.
He is survived by his three children: Kyle Dustin Rooney, Kaity Deuschle Rooney, and Kolton Derrick Rooney and their mother Monika Feeney, all of Springfield. Also surviving are his parents, Bob and Marilyn Rooney of Galesburg, IL now Springfield; and his older brother Steve Rooney and his wife Sharon; also of Springfield His nieces and their spouses, Heather and Ben McBride (all of Springfield) and Megan and Josh Thompson (of Knoxville, TN).
Visitation will be April 28th 4pm to 6pm at Greenlawn Funeral Home-East. The memorial service will be held Monday April 29th at 2:00pm, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens-Springfield, MO.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been set up at Empire Bank for the children, Kyle, Kaity and Kolton. Donations can be made to the Mark Rooney Memorial Fund at any Empire Bank.
