Jack Austin Smith

Jack Austin Smith, age 82, of Ozark, MO formerly of Carrollton, MO passed away Thursday, May 2, 2013 at The Baptist Home in Ozark, MO.

Jack was born October 28, 1930 to Jesse P. and Nellie (Williams) Smith on the family farm in the Sugartree area in Carroll County. On June 4, 1961, Jack married the love of his life, Peggy J. Wagner at the First Baptist Church in Norborne, MO. To this union they were blessed with two children Elizabeth and Cara Lee.

Jack graduated from Carrollton High School in 1949. Following graduation, Jack attended Mizzou for two years. Jack served his county in the Air Force in the Korean War. After returning from the war, Jack and Peggy were the owners and operator of the Mary Ann Flower Shop in Carrollton, MO for 25 years. During this time he served as a District Director for FTD. Jack also served on the Carrollton Housing Authority Committee. Jack was very active in the First Baptist Church in Carrollton, MO. He served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, Chairman of the Mission Home Committee and Moderator of the Carroll County Baptist Association. Jack was currently a member of South Gate Baptist Church in Springfield, MO. He was also a former member of the Wakanda Lodge # 52 AF&AM, Carroll County Shrine Club and Past President of the Carrollton Lions Club.

Jack is survived by his wife, Peggy of the home; two daughters, Elizabeth Jane Smith of Houston, TX, Cara Lee Harris and husband, Warren of Springfield, MO; two grandchildren, Grant and Paige Harris of Springfield, MO; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Smith of Salisbury, MO; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald and Pat Vantrump of Norborne, MO and a close cousin, George Nelson of Anchorage, AK.

Jack was preceded in death by three brothers, Dr. Jess W. Smith, Robert E. Smith, Dr. Paul A. Smith; two sisters, Mrs. Joy Jane Shaw and Rose in infancy; two nephews and one great niece.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2013 from 1:00-1:45 p.m. at Bittiker Funeral Home in Carrollton, MO. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Jim Miller and Reverend Jeremy Payne officiating. Burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Carrollton, MO with military services provided by Pence-Lovell-England Post # 1773.

There will be a visitation held Monday, May 6, 2013 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Campbell United Methodist Church in Springfield, MO, located at 1747 East Republic Road.
