Donald Lee Cloud

Mr. Donald Cloud, Billings, MO, age 86, died July 10, 2013. He was born south of Clever, near Possum Trot, on May 15, 1927, to Kenneth D. and Ruth I. (Ely) Cloud. He moved to Billings in 1939.

At an early age he had the responsibility of building a fire in an old coal furnace located in the basement of the church. He became Sunday School superintendent after returning from serving in World War II in the U. S. Navy Seabees in 1945-1946. He served as superintendent for over 50 years as well as serving on the Administrative Board and the Board of Trustees for the Billings United Methodist Church. He took the youth group on many trips to Springfield to the district Methodist Youth Fellowship meetings. Donald drew the plans for the present parsonage and the three Sunday School rooms. He volunteered many hours of labor on each.

In 1951 Donald married Carolyn McGuire, in the Marionville Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Carolyn; four children, Dorann and husband Allen Jones of Lake Jackson, Texas, Ken Cloud of Billings, Missouri, Rick and his wife Kathy Cloud of Rogers, Arkansas, and Micky and his wife Debbie Cloud of Ruston, Louisiana; grandchildren, Myra Jones, Karalyn Jones, Andy Cloud, Ashley Cloud, Tiffany (Cloud) Camp and Michael Cloud; and one great-grandson, Gavin Camp. He is also survived by a sister, Doris (Cloud) Broxterman of Springfield, Missouri.

Donald worked in the Bank of Billings for 38 years and then went to work for Wal-Mart for almost fifteen years. In his "spare time" he was Scout Master for Troop 73, and was an Eagle Scout himself, of the Boy Scouts of America, and took the boys on four trips to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. He also found time to referee or umpire many of the area football, basketball, baseball games and a volleyball game or two. He served as a volunteer fireman for 38 years. On May 1, 1982 he was made a lifetime member of the Billings Fire Department. He has been a member of the American Legion for 68 years.

He has held many positions serving the City of Billings as alderman, city clerk, and treasurer from 1951 to 2005 and also as mayor for several terms. He has served on the school board, the senior housing board, and delivered meals-on-wheels for 20 years.

Donald's philosophy has always been to put church and family first, and that everyone should contribute service to the community in which they live.
