Karl Berglund

Karl Edward Berglund, 89 of Springfield, went to be with his LORD Monday, August 19, 2013 in the Missouri Veterans Home, Mt. Vernon, MO. He was the son of Swedish immigrant parents, John F.W. and Claribel Berglund, husband of Vena E. Custer Berglund, and father of Pam, David and Glenda. He was a three year veteran of WWII, Army Air Corp ETO.

He was a member of First Free Church, Solomon lodge 271, Scottish Rites, Valley of Joplin, Founder and owner of Berglund Shoe, Mt. Vernon, MO 1953-1987. He served as scoutmaster for explorer scouts, was a leader of United Methodist Youth Fellowship, honorary chapter farmer FFA, a charter member of Mt. Vernon Boosters (now chamber of commerce), and President of Mt. Vernon Golf Association. He was a graduate of Springfield Senior High, class of '41. He attended Warrensburg State College and STC (now MSU).

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Nadine (1943).

Karl is survived by his wife of 67 years, Vena Custer Berglund; children, Pamela Sue Dudley of St. Louis, MO; Karl David Berglund of San Miguel, Mexico; Glenda Nadine Buttrey and husband Michael Buttrey of Broken Arrow, OK; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 22, 2013 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 E. Seminole St. Springfield, MO 65804. Funeral services will be Friday, August 23, 2013 at 10:00am in the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will follow in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood Road, Springfield, MO.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Evangelical Free Church, 5500 S. Southwood Rd, Springfield, MO 65804.
