Melvin J. Billingsley, 93, passed away on October 14, 2013, in Ozark, Missouri. He was born to Marvin Russell Billingsley and Ada Wood Billingsley near Holden, Missouri. He graduated from Holden High School in 1937 and was united in marriage to Betty Jo Barnes on May 8, 1943.
He is survived by his wife and children: Linn Russell Billingsley (Lynda), Ballwin, Missouri, David M. Billingsley (Debra), Topeka, Kansas, Joanna V Billingsley, (Kevin Parnell), Ozark, Missouri and Catherine Boling (Steven), Springfield, Missouri and daughter-in-law Sandra Billingsley, Kansas City, Missouri. Also surviving him are grandchildren Cindy Vilsik, Phillip Billingsley, Renee Thomas, Marti Young, Greg Billingsley, Paige Parnell and Spencer Hawkins as well as 11 great grandchildren.
Melvin was baptized into the First Christian Church of Holden, Missouri and later became a member of South Street Christian Church. For over 50 years he was a member of the Solomon Masonic Lodge, Abou Ben Adhem Shrine and Crescent Chapter of the Eastern Star. He followed his father into the livestock trading business and later retired from Kraft Foods. He had a love of Hispanic language and culture and traveled extensively in Mexico and Central America after retirement.
He was preceded in death by his devoted son, J Mark Billingsley, his mother and father, 3 sisters (Isla, Romona and Florence), in-laws Linn and Anna Barnes and his beloved grandparents, J. Reuben and Maude Billingsley.
Graveside services will be held at Holden Cemetery on Friday, October 18, under the direction of Cast Funeral Home. The omission of flowers is requested. Memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children-St. Louis.
